FAQ for Hosting and Participating in Spaces with Underaged Users

I’m a Space Host – what should I do?

As a host, you can set minimum age or maximum age requirements for people to join your Space.

We encourage you to be mindful of the age group you’d like to target with your Space and adjust accordingly.

If you host a Space with no age restrictions, please review your Space settings to ensure you are targeting the appropriate age group.

How can I check the age restrictions of my Space?

  • Open the Space.
  • Tap on the space name in the header section.
  • Tap on the cog icon in the upper right corner.
  • Scroll down to “Edit target age.”
  • If your Space has no minimum age, users from 13 years onwards can see and join your Space.

How can I make sure my Space is for adults only (+18)?

If you marked your Space with Sensitive Content, then by default the Space will have a minimum age restriction of +18. The option to mark a Space with Sensitive Content is disabled for teens.

You can edit the age restriction of your Space by following these steps:

  • Open the Space.
  • Tap on the space name in the header section.
  • Tap on the cog icon in the upper right corner.
  • Scroll down to “Edit target age”.
  • Select 18 as the minimum age.
  • Turn on the “Restricted to this age group” toggle.

How can I create a Space for teens only?

By default, when you create a Space as a teen, it will automatically be targeted to users younger than 18 years old.

You can edit the age restriction of your Space by following these steps:

  • Open the Space.
  • Tap on the space name in the header section.
  • Tap on the cog icon in the upper right corner.
  • Scroll down to “Edit target age”.
  • Remove the restriction on Max Age. IMPORTANT: doing this will allow adults to see and join your Space.
  • Turn on the “Restricted to this age group” toggle.

How can I ensure that my Space is inclusive for teens?

  • Use inclusive language and avoid discrimination.
  • Avoid discussing sexual content, using explicit language, bullying, or harassment.
  • Encourage positive behavior and create a supportive environment.
  • Do not share or request explicit pictures.
  • Do not solicit romantic or sexual relationships.

Can I share personal information with teens?

No, please protect the privacy and confidentiality of minors by not sharing personal information with them.

Is private messaging allowed between teens and adults?

No, all direct messaging between minors and adults is disabled, whether the adult is a Space host or not.

What should I do if I suspect a user is lying about their age?

We encourage you to report it immediately. When prompted, if none of the available reasons is fit, you can still report it as “Underaged” and our Support team will make the necessary measures to check if the user is lying about their age.

How can I deal with inappropriate content or behavior?

  • Remove inappropriate content when possible.
  • Report any inappropriate content or behavior immediately by tapping on the message or navigating to the user profile.

How can I report a user or message?

You can report a user or message by clicking on the report button, which is available on every user profile and message. Our moderation team will review the report and take appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of our users.

How are teen’s safety and privacy ensured?

We take the safety and privacy of our users seriously. We have a dedicated moderation team that constantly monitors chats and photos sent to Spaces, as well as profile pictures of users and Space profiles. Additionally, we have disabled DMs between teens and adults, and provide a report button for users to report any inappropriate behavior.

SPACES Team members monitor content closely to ensure it aligns with our guidelines. We reserve the right to enforce our guidelines, including setting public Spaces to private, removing the Space, and/or suspending the account.

If you still didn’t find an answer to your question or problem, please contact our support team here. It’s important to inform us of your username (@…) so that we can trace your account and provide a faster response.
