For three years, artist Spencer Tunick has been planning a nude art installation at a secret location near the Republican National Convention (RNC). This morning it finally happened as 100 women stripped naked and held mirrors directing sunlight at the RNC arena.

According to Esquire, at 6:53 a.m. this morning, Tunick told the 100 women who had assembled, ”The Republican party has given an excuse to hate. We have daughters and we want them to grow up in a society where they have equal rights for women… We will shine your light and power onto the RNC. We’re going to shine the light of women into this arena.”

The heterosexual artist and his wife coordinated the shoot, and it occurred without any significant police interference. In 2000, Tunick won a Supreme Court case against New York City whose police had forced a shutdown of one of his projects. He has coordinated over 75 human art installations worldwide and Lady Gaga reported covered Tunick’s work in her NYU undergraduate thesis.
