- January 5, 1974: The first LGBT telephone help line debuts across the pond in London.
- January 5, 1974: The Brunswick Four are arrested! Four lesbian women who performed a song “I Enjoy Being a Dyke” at the Brunswick Tavern in Toronto, Ontario are kicked out of the bar, and physically mistreated by police officers upon their arrest. The women successfully sued the Toronto Police Department for assault, and went on to become a media sensation and benchmark for the LGBT community.
