Last night the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles’ performed David Bowie’s seminal album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. The event took place at the Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center — and included additional Bowie songs to complete the Ziggy saga.
It was an great performance — though one attendee didn’t have the best night. Caitlyn Jenner was in the crowd — but Ashlee Marie Preston didn’t stand for it.
During the Chorus’ performance of “Suffragette City,” Preston found Jenner in the crowd.
Though the audio isn’t the best quality — the music drowns out much of the argument — it’s easy to see what’s going on. When Preston first comes up to Jenner, Jenner goes in for a hug and a kiss — which Preston immediately blocks.
“It’s really fucked up that you are here. Some people may be afraid to confront you for being here, but I am not. You are directly responsible for what has happened with transgender soldiers and the military. I am not afraid to say it to you, I am not. I am not afraid.”
Another board member, Dena Williams, tried to end the situation — but Preston continued to speak truth.
“You are complicit! Taking her money…makes you complicit. It goes against the mission [of the Trans Chorus], Dena! We are the ones impacted by the choices that you make…it’s not okay,It’s not okay, it’s not okay.”
Jenner replies “You don’t know me.” But, as we all do given her reality shows and inability to stay out of the limelight, Preston told Jenner what we’ve all wanted to say since day one:
“Yes I do! We all do! You are a fraud!”
Jenner finally left at this point, and Preston continued to confront Williams, saying that she was “really disappointed.”
Really Trans Chorus of Los Angeles – TCLA? You had to take Caitlyn Jenner's money and invite her here?… #CashOverCommunity
As a result, Preston resigned from the Trans Chorus’ board, citing “executive decisions such as the one made tonight.”
