We’re super stoked that the director of Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi understands that the thirst is real and the thirst is important. He’s so woke with this knowledge that he made sure that there were plenty of Chris Hemsworth shirtless scenes added to the film.
“I was like, ‘Chris, you have to take your shirt off’. And he was like, ‘Oh, they always make me take my shirt off in these movies!’ But I told him we wanted bums on seats,” Waititi tells Yahoo Entertainment.
“I would say on the DVD you can expect a whole extra DVD just of that – four hours of him, slow-motion, black and white, black and chrome, full colour, IMAX version, iPhone version.”
Hemsworth also confirms the story, saying he was better prepared the first time around for being shirtless because the shirtless scenes were already there in the script.
“In the very first Thor, I’d be training for months and months and months and Kenneth Branagh said ‘What do you think about a shirt off scene?’ I said ‘Mate, I’ve been killing myself in the gym for eight months – I’m ready! Let’s go!” Hemsworth adds.
“This time round, there wasn’t one in the script. I thought, ‘Thank God.’ Then Taika came up to me and said, ‘I feel like we got to put it in there, come on. Let’s be gratuitous and see some skin.”
Thor: Ragnarok is the sequel to Thor: The Dark World that came out in 2013 and is the seventeenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Waititi and stars Hemsworth with Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor must escape the alien planet Sakaar in time to save Asgard from Hela and the impending Ragnarök.
We’re honestly not sure what any of that means but it’s all OK because he will be shirtless doing it.
