Coffee Recalled by FDA for Having Erection-Inducing Ingredient

What if a cup or two of coffee would not only give you a jump start to your day, but also a raging boner? Well, you possibly could have had such a wet dream before the Food and Drug Administration ruined all the fun.

The FDA recalled a popular Malaysian coffee that began to be sold in the United States in 2014. The instant mix had a natural ingredient similar to what’s found in Viagra that helps men with erectile dysfunction.

Albert Yee’s company, Grand Prairie, Texas based Bestherbs Coffee LLC, voluntarily began recalling “New of Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee” after the FDA found undeclared ingredients, including desmethyl carbodenafil and milk, sold between July 2014 and June 2016.

The FDA’s statement reads:

Bestherbs Coffee LLC is voluntarily recalling all lots of New of Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee, 13 grams to the consumer level. FDA laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of desmethyl carbodenafil. Desmethyl carbodenafil is structurally similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, an FDA-approved prescription drug for erectile dysfunction (ED).

The FDA noted: “The undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.”

“Men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease often take nitrates,” the FDA said. It also warned that the coffee’s unlisted milk ingredient could be dangerous for people with allergies or sensitivities to milk.

Both the FDA and Yee said there have been no consumer health issues related to his company’s coffee.

Similarly last year, the FDA advised consumers not to purchase or use Stiff Bull Herbal Coffee, a product promoted for improving energy. This product was identified by FDA during an examination of international mail shipments.

The FDA confirmed that Stiff Bull Herbal Coffee also contains desmethyl carbodenafil.
