While Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall are busy feuding with each other, another Sex and the City star is in the headlines because of a potential bid in politics. NY1 is reporting that Cynthia Nixon is poised to jump into the race for New York governor, challenging Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary in September. So why do people think the Cynthia Nixon for governor campaign is happening?

Sources say Rebecca Katz and Bill Hyers, two veterans of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s first campaign for mayor, are expected to play a major role. But Nixon and her team aren’t verifying the rumors… yet.

“Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously, she will continue to explore it,” Rebecca Capellan, Nixon’s publicist, said in an email statement. “If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public.”

“I have heard those rumors,” Nixon said when asked about running by the Today show in August. “I’ve heard them. I’ve read them.”

In 2017,  Nixon made an appearance speaking at an LGBT Solidarity Rally at the Stonewall Inn, showing off some of her potential prowess as a politician.

“We don’t know yet what Donald Trump has in store for us, and chances are he doesn’t either,” Nixon proclaimed. “He poses as our ally… but he chooses Mike Pence, the poster boy for anti-LGBT rhetoric, legislation and conversion therapy, as his vice president.”

She continued: “We need to come out not just as queer, but as people who know all too well what it feels like to be put in a box that says ‘other,’ less than,’ ‘easy target if you’re looking for someone to bully, harass, discriminate against, demonize, beat up or even kill.”

Honestly, she has our vote. Maybe SJP for president, too? Now, that would be fabulous.
