Donald Trump Doesn’t Want Gays Receiving Benefits Or Marrying
Dude, you’re fired. We told you before about Donald Trump “loving gays” but hating gay marriage, and you freaked out along with us. Well, now that this business titan and lover of gays is considering a presidential run in the 2012 election, he’s been giving interviews left and right on topical issues.
A reporter for the Des Moines Register & Tribune Co. followed up on Trump’s recent comments on gay marriage.
Asked whether he supports allowing same-sex couples to marry, Trump said no. Iowa conservatives have overwhelmingly opposed the 2009 Iowa Supreme Court decision overturning the state’s ban on gay marriage.
“They should not be able to marry,” he said. But asked whether gay couples should be able access the same benefits as married couples, he said his “attitude on it has not been fully formed.”
Given a second to think, Trump said on marriage and civil benefits, “As of this moment, I would say no and no.”
Just to rub salt in our big, gay wounds, Trump also defended his three divorces in the same interview where he expresses that gays and lesbians should not be given the right to marry.
He acknowledged that he had been divorced and that he is not the only one weighing a 2012 campaign who is.
Like former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Trump is on his third marriage.
“But one of the reasons I was divorced is because I worked very hard,” he said. “And, you know, that’s a good reason. But I worked very, very hard building up a great company. And it’s a great company.”
Ah. Gotcha. If you work hard, then divorcing three times is acceptable. But if you’re gay as well as a hard worker, you’re screwed.
Thanks for clearing it all up, Donald!
