Season 10 contestant Monet X Change and winner of Season 8 Bob The Drag Queen clapped back at allegations from fans that RuPaul’s Drag Race is racist.
Drag Race has long struggled with race:
– two seasons in a ROW, a black queen deserving of the crown didn’t get it.
– the show has long made sport of stereotyping members of its cast.
– many fans seem a-ok dealing in blatant racism.
Enough IS enough.
Bob clapped back: “This show has highlighted more trans people and QUEER POC than ANY SHOW ON TELEVISION. Any problems you have with thinking people are stereotypes are based on your own racial bias and implications.”
“Trust me when I tell you it’s NOT a show run by a bunch of white people,” she continued. “I agree that the fans have a racist mentality and I’ve said that. I even said it on this very thread. And don’t even get me started on the stereotype thing. Only blacks have been taught to be ashamed of the things that are specific to our community.”
New York’s Monet X Change also took to social media to respond to the allegations, sharing some of the racist abuse she has had to endure at the hands of fans. She said:
If you have been going around all day belting that RuPaul’s Drag Race is racist…you’re a clown, and you’re REACHING. Statistically, Drag Race IS one of the most ethnically diverse competition reality shows in HERSTORY. If you look at the winners from Seasons 1-9/All Stars 1-3 over 50% of the winners are POCs. Only 5 of the 12 winners have been white!
If you want to talk about racism… you address the fandom. The FANS are the part of the show where the racism stems from. Y’all have not seen one episode yet, but I’ve already been called all kind of talentless Niggas, and Black this & thats. But that shit don’t phase me because its Season 10, and 8 out of the 14 of us are POC!
Check yo keyboard and your self-righteous non-sense before you on Twitter chirpin’ pure and utter shit.
