A well-timed fart is an appropriate moment, an appropriate silence, and there’s a fart. If it stinks or anything, that’s not really funny, but, especially in movies, there’s just that one little toot. And you laugh—it makes anybody laugh. Even if it’s a tense situation, if somebody farts in the room, it’s going to make people laugh.
I remember one instance—I used to be roommates with Darienne Lake, who was also on Drag Race, and she came into the room—it was me and our other roommate—and she said, “Oh, I’m so mad, I could just fart!” And she farted. We laughed for like 20 minutes. We couldn’t stop laughing.
— Pandora Boxx, the winner of Miss Congeniality in season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race, talking with The Onion’s A.V. Club about being a drag queen comedienne and the time that a fellow Drag Race competitor broke wind in front of her. Boxx got eliminated in the eighth episode of the reality show competition after failing to win a single challenge despite her comedic talents and playful style. She is currently part of a Drag Queens of Comedy tour featuring other Drag Race cut-ups like Bob the Drag Queen and other longtime favorites like Lady Bunny and Coco Peru (both of whom appeared in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar).
In the A.V. Club interview, Boxx also talks about the fall during her final exit from RuPaul’s Drag Race; for those of you who wondered — it was deliberate. But she got a laugh from the judges, which is exactly how she wanted to end it.
