Tragic news out of Los Angeles today. Pop star Demi Lovato has been rushed to the hospital in an apparent heroin overdose. According to TMZ, she was transported to an unnamed hospital from her home in the Hollywood Hills. The singer’s condition after the apparent Demi Lovato heroin overdose is yet unknown.

Lovato has been upfront about her struggles with sobriety. Last month’s hit song “Sober” revealed that Lovato had relapsed after six years sober from alcohol, cocaine and Oxycontin. In 2010, she had to drop out of her tour with the Jonas Brothers. At the time, she went to rehab, where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Of the diagnosis, she said, “Getting a diagnosis was kind of a relief. It helped me start to make sense of the harmful things I was doing to cope with what I was experiencing.” Lovato has become a spokesperson for mental health awareness, partnering with the Be Vocal campaign.

Sadly, after leaving the treatment center, she relapsed, but then entered a sober living facility, where she lived for a year. This March, she celebrated six years of being sober, though the lyrics to “Sober” revealed she had broken her sobriety.

The chorus to “Sober” is: “Momma, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore / And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor / To the ones who never left me, we’ve been down this road before / I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.” The rest of the song describes the horrors of drug addiction with lines like “Call me when it’s over ’cause I’m dying inside / Wake me when the shakes are gone / And the cold sweats disappear / Call me when it’s over and myself has reappeared” and “Sometimes I just wanna cave and I don’t wanna fight.”

We send our best to the singer in the wake of the apparent Demi Lovato heroin overdose.
