Eric Trump has responded to Gus Kenworthy’s tweet about Ivanka Trump at the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremonies in PyeongChang, South Korea. In Kenworthy’s initial tweet, he called out the President’s daughter for leading the U.S. Delegation at the Closing Ceremonies.
The tweet read: “So proud of all these people! Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well… Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here??”
Ivanka’s brother hit back at Kenworthy during an appearance on Fox & Friends this week. When asked about the skier’s comments, he replied: “It’s gross.”
“It’s disgusting,” Eric Trump said on the show when asked about the freestyle skier’s comments. “Ivanka’s beautiful. She’s elegant.”
“She was an incredible representative of this country and we should be very proud of her,” he continued.
Eric Trump next compared his father’s administration to Barack Obama’s, suggesting that his children wouldn’t have been subject to the same type of scrutiny.
“It should bother us as a society. Can you imagine if Sasha or Malia [Obama] went over to the Olympics and somebody said that about them? That’s not what the Olympics is about,” he continued.
Many on social media loved Kenworthy’s dig at Trump. “Throwing shade right till the end,” exclaimed one Twitter fan.
Of course there were plenty of detractors, Twitter users who felt that his focus on the President’s daughter was misplaced.
One person responded: “Gus, you fight so hard for ppl to except who you are, and not judge…right? But it’s ok to publicly disparage Ivanka…for what reason? Bc you disagree with her father? If you fight to stop hate, then stop helping to spread it. D. Bag. #nolongerafan”
Another jabbed: “She is there doing her JOB! Unlike some people Mr. 12th place.”
