Former Virginia Mayor Pleads Guilty to Trading Meth for Gay Orgy

Former Fairfax City mayor R. Scott Silverthorne pleaded guilty for charges related to attempting to exchange meth for participation in a gay orgy.

Silverthorne was arrested last August after he gave methamphetamine to another man in the hopes of getting into a big gay orgy at a hotel. Alas, the other man turned out to be an undercover police officer.

Inside NoVa reports that police detectives first connected with Silverthorne last July on a hookup website called Bareback Real Time. Silverthorne’s profile name was “Another Fun D.C. Bottom.”

Unlike many other politicians caught in gay sex scandals, Silverthorne is neither a Republican nor married. He ran as an Independent, and while not exactly openly gay he wasn’t really in the closet either. Silverthorne’s attorney told the Washington Blade that the former mayor’s sexuality was “the worst kept secret in Fairfax.”

Silverthorne resigned after the arrest.

On Monday, Silverthorne pleaded guilty to one count of distributing methamphetamine. He currently awaits sentencing.
