A reporter from Out Sports stopped to chat a bit with a few openly LGBTQ college athletes competing in an NCAA diving meet.

Five out of the 40 college athletes competing at the meet identify as LGBTQ. One declined to talk to interviewers, but the other four did: Cory Morena, Anthony Musciano, Alex Obendorf and David Pfeifer. The four divers identify as gay.

It’s an encouraging sign that so many athletes feel comfortable being openly gay. The world of sports traditionally has a reputation for being hyper-masculine and conservative, but it’s clear there has been a lot of progress.
