Passengers on a crowded London bus recently applauded a gay man for confronting a loud-mouth homophobe who threatened to stab people in the face with “a new knife” he had. The gay man, a Londoner named Daniel Simmonds, helped get the homophobe ejected from the bus after his prolonged rant.
After mentioning a “batty man,” an anti-gay phrase used in Jamaican dancehall music to refer to homosexual men, the man continues his rant. He says:
’It’s alright to be gay!’ No, it’s not alright to be gay! It’s not alright to be gay…. Even when I’m talking now, the white man get offended…. You say anything, I’ll murder you. I’ll stab you up in your face…. I’ve got a new knife. I wanna … I might do that now but there’s cameras…. You can’t beat me up!”
He then repeats several times, “Talk me, I put my new knife in your face!” He then says that Chinese people are like white people: “All they care about is money.”
Soon after he says:
“Every day I read the Torah, the Bible and the Koran and it says, ‘When you tell the truth, the pagans don’t like that.’ They like lies. That’s why they like to watch batty man programs like: Eastenders, Coronation Street — all have queers in ‘em. Get me. And that’s what they teach the kids.”
“White people are deluded. They think they’re God,” says the judgmental homophobe who reads three religious texts a day and threatens to stab strangers who talk to him. He then bragged about how he could easily beat up and murder a fat white guy.
Here’s the video:
At this point, Simmonds steps up to him and says, “Excuse me, I’m gay and I’m white, and I don’t think I’m god. Are you threatening to stab me?”
“Do you know me?” the man asks and then begins shouting, “Don’t talk to me! Don’t talk to me!”
Simmonds calmly responds, “You’ve just been talking to everyone on the bus.”
“Leave me alone!” the homophobe shouts, “because I can see what you’re up to. You’re gay and you’re clever. Leave me alone. You heard that, eh, gay clever man? Leave me alone. Don’t talk to me.”
“I think you should chill out,” Simmonds replies calmly yet again.
“Don’t talk to me!” the man shouts back.
At this point, the driver shouts to the homophobe, “Come off the bus!” to which the homophobe sarcastically replies, “It’s your bus! I remember how much you paid for it.”
As the homophobe exits the bus, talking about how walking is better, the other passengers thank the driver for ejecting him and then eventually applaud Simmonds.
