These Are the 10 Steamiest Gay Scenes to Air on TV in 2017

This post is also available in: Español

Once upon a time there were hardly any gay characters on TV, let alone gay sex scenes.

But it just so happens that 2017 brought a nice crop of steamy gay sex scenes that pushed the envelope, turned viewers on and thrilled gay and bi viewers alike.

We’ve chosen 10 of the year’s very best gay sex scenes and share them with you below.

These are TV’s steamiest gay sex scenes (and other hot gay scenes) of 2017, ranked from hottest to tamest:

1. American Gods

The TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel brought us quite possibly the steamiest televised gay sex scene of all time. In the show’s second episode, Salim (Omid Abtahi), a recent New York City transplant, gets topped by Jinn (Mousa Kraish), a mythological Middle Eastern god posing as a taxi driver.

The show’s gay showrunner Bryan Fuller said the show wanted “two gay Muslim characters to have a beautiful, sophistical, sexual experience and … to visually give you an idea of what it’s like to take a god inside you. I felt like it was a wonderful metaphor for a religious experience.” We agree!

2. How to Get Away With Murder

This year, the ABC legal drama showed law student Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee) get it on with a furry, bearded hottie (Matthew Risch). Their scene lasted 30 seconds and featured Walsh biting a pillow as he presumably bottomed for his sexy fuckbud. It’s as hot as any gay sex scenes you’d watch in softcore porn.

3. Shameless

Although the show’s seventh season originally aired on Showtime in 2016, it made it onto Netflix in September of this year, giving the season a new life and giving a new audience the chance to see many hot kisses between Mickey and Ian, a gay couple who have shared several kissing and sex scenes throughout the show’s duration.

In one particularly hot scene, the two can’t resist kissing each other at a nighttime pier, then strip down to have sex under the moonlight — yow!

4. Sense8

While fans of Netflix’s queer-friendly sci-fi series didn’t get the full-blown telepathic orgy they’d hoped for, they did get a steamy beach make-out between Lito Rodriguez and his boyfriend Hernando Fuentes, a smokin’ hot Latino gay couple. Both of the fellas are stacked, and they both wore dripping wet thongs in what we can only call “the modern gay version of the kiss from From Here to Eternity.

5. American Horror Story

The seventh season of the horror anthology series delivered not one but two same-sex anal sex scenes, both featuring openly gay actor Colton Haynes as Detective Samuels. In the first scene, he got topped by Harrison Wilton, his beekeeping neighbor played by gay comedian Billy Eichner (above). The second of the gay sex scenes had Haynes’s character bottoming in a bisexual threesome with cult leader Kai Anderson, played by Evan Peters, and Kai’s sister, Winter, played by Billie Lourd.

Both scenes were mere seconds long, but still a step forward in terms of queer sexual visibility.

6. The Exorcist and Riverdale

So we just couldn’t decide between two of our favorite shows for our Number 6 spot.

After some supernatural detective work conducted by de-collared priest Marcus Keane (played by Ben Daniels) and local U.S. Fish and Wildlife investigator Peter Morrow (played by Christopher Cousins), the two men share a hot kiss. The show had hinted at Keane’s bisexuality in the first season, but this embrace most definitely verified it.

The kiss upset some fans of the supernatural thriller, to which showrunner Jeremy Slater replied, “Good, fuck you. … You shouldn’t have good things in your life.”

But then on Riverdale, there’s the incredibly hot kiss behind the drive-in movie theatre between the show’s major openly gay character Kevin Keller and Joaquin, a local bad boy who flees the town to avoid getting caught up in a murder mystery. And if that wasn’t hot enough on its own, they also share several intimate smooches throughout the show’s first season.

7. Shadowhunters

Season 2, Episode 18 of this supernatural drama series had Alec, the angelic demon slayer, kissing Magnus, the High Warlock of Brooklyn. Their scenes cut away before full consummation, but the kissing is still mega hot.

Though the race of angelic warriors that Alec belongs to isn’t typically friendly to queer members, Alec later comes out about his relationship with Magnus, inspiring other closeted Shadowhunters to come out, too.

8. The Deuce

Sadly there isn’t web video of the hot threesome that goes down in the show’s “What Kind of Bad?” episode, but the clip above shows the context. In the episode, a gay bartender named Paul (played by Chris Coy) gets a blowjob during a movie. Afterwards, he follows his blow buddy to an underground club where they get high and start dancing and making out. They then retired to Paul’s apartment, where Paul’s roommate gets in on the action. All three of them start kissing, undressing and groping one another. Way to sack ’em, Paul!

9. Star Trek: Discovery

This year had two superheroic, sci-fi, same-sex kisses: One happened between openly gay actors Russell Tovey and Wentworth Miller in the Crisis On Earth X four-hour superhero TV crossover event, and the other happened between openly gay actors Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz on Star Trek: Discovery.

The two actors play a gay couple in the series, the first ever to be televised in the franchise’s 51-year history. In the episode, Dr. Hugh Culber (Cruz) kisses Lieutenant Paul Stamets (Rapp) goodbye before Stamets begins a potentially deadly series of teleportations to help save his crew from a fleet of warring enemy ships.

10. Difficult People

Last but not least we’ve got another great interracial kiss, this time between white comedian Billy Eichner and Asian actor John Cho. Eichner plays Billy, a bitchy and grumpy comedian, and in Season 3 he gets a love interest: a “dickish advertising exec” named Todd (Cho).

After Bill non-consensually uses Todd’s headshot in an anti-circumcision campaign image, the two start a flame war that culminates in each one hatching a plot to make the other look racist at their workplaces, but while on the way to sabotage the other, the two men run into each other, bond over how “fucked up” they both are (and their shared hatred of the phrase “I need a vacation from my vacation”) and then start making out in front of a tour bus — awesome.
