‘Gays For Trump’ Denied Entry into the Charlotte Pride Parade

The Charlotte, North Carolina chapter of Gays for Trump — which may or may not be connected to the identically named homonationalist organization that exists solely because its founder “[doesn’t] want to die at the hands of radical Islamic terrorists” — has been rejected from marching in Charlotte’s pride parade on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017.

A Gays for Trump member of the Charlotte chapter, Brian Talbert — the guy who runs deplorablepride.org — applied to have a chapter float in Charlotte’s annual parade, but had his application denied.

In a media statement, a Charlotte Pride organizer said:

Charlotte Pride reserves the right to decline participation at our events to groups or organizations which do not reflect the mission, vision and values of our organization… In the past, we have made similar decisions to decline participation from other organizations espousing anti-LGBTQ religious or public policy stances. Charlotte Pride envisions a world in which LGBTQ people are affirmed, respected and included in the full social and civic life of their local communities, free from fear of any discrimination, rejection, and prejudice.

Talbert told the press, “For a group of people to claim to want tolerance, acceptance, and give it to every single person you can imagine to give it to, for them to sit back and judge me for exercising my right as an American to choose my leader without judgment is hypocritical.”

Talbert says he’s planning on suing, but he’s likely to lose such a lawsuit thanks to two U.S. Supreme Court decisions — Hurley v. Irish-American Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Group of Boston (1995) and Boy Scouts of America v. Dale (2000) — both of which upheld the right of public marches and private groups not “to include groups who impart a message the organizers do not want to be included.”

Unsurprisingly, both the national Gays 4 Trump founder Peter Boykin and the LGBTQ Republican group, Log Cabin Republicans, have both voiced support for Talbert.

You may recall that Gays for Trump held a rally and march in Washington D.C. in early March starring Joy Villa, the singer who wore a pro-Trump gown at the Grammys. They also threw the Deploraball celebrating Trump’s inauguration in January 2017. A North Carolina Gays for Trump supporter was also recorded assaulting a protestor at a Trump rally in October 2016.
