Give OUT Day Is an Opportunity to Support LGBTQ Nonprofits That Form the Resistance

An organization founded to fight violence following the Pulse nightclub shooting; another serving homeless LGBTQ youth in Arkansas; one that fills its community with music; one that works to build bridges across racial boundaries in the Deep South; another that gives gay men the opportunity to play with some balls (baseballs, that is). These are but a few of the 600+ organizations participating in Give OUT Day on Thursday, April 19.

Give OUT Day is the only online day of giving that benefits LGBTQ nonprofits. With organizations in every state in the country, plus Washington, D.C., Give OUT Day raises nearly a million dollars to support our community.

With an increasing number of hate crimes and national and state leaders emboldened by a rise of nationalism across America, the LGBTQ organizations working day in and day out to protect our culture and our freedoms play an increasingly important role.

Giving to them is giving to the resistance.

It sends a signal that you care about the work that they do and that you are willing to fight alongside them.

And it’s amazing what the gifts from Give OUT Day do and how they add up. The SOURCE LGBT+ Center in Visalia, California, for instance, is located in the deep-red Central Valley, far away from the epicenters of LGBTQ life in other areas of California. Although only one year old in 2017, the Center used the power of Give OUT Day to connect with an impressive 288 donors, raising more than $17,000 to provide services and programs. Many of these gifts were as small as $10. But add them all up, and they make a difference.

“There is no part of the country where LGBTQ lives have not been changed for the better by the incredible work the Give OUT Day participating organizations are doing each day,” says Give OUT Day’s Nikole Pagan. “Nonprofits are the backbone of LGBTQ America, and at a time where our rights are once again under assault, these organizations are using Give OUT Day as a vehicle to resist and to rebuild.”

You can make a difference in our community by supporting an LGBTQ nonprofit on Give OUT Day on April 19. Give what you can. Give today. Give often. Give big. Give small. Just Give OUT.
