Giving Tuesday: Here Are 7 LGBTQ Charities You Can Help Today
Yesterday was Cyber Monday, and while it’s fabulous to spend some money on a new TV or a bougie trip to a far off destination, there’s no greater gift than the gift of good. Today is Giving Tuesday, where charities and organizations across the country ask for people to dip into their pockets after a weekend of holiday shopping to donate and help their causes.
In honor of Giving Tuesday, we rounded-up seven deserving LGBTQ charities that are doing great work for our community. From an organization helping LGBTQ elders to organizations working to end LGBTQ youth homelessness, our list explains the work these charities are doing and why they need our dollars.
You can set up a fundraiser on your Facebook for one of these charities, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match whatever you and your Facebook community end up raising today, up to 2 million dollars. Also, Facebook is waiving its typical 5% fee on donations to U.S-based nonprofits all day long.
Here are 7 LGBT charities that need your help this Giving Tuesday:
1. The Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP)
The Sylvia Rivera Law Project works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race and without facing harassment, discrimination or violence. SRLP is a collective organization founded on the understanding that gender self-determination is inextricably intertwined with racial, social and economic justice.
You can donate to SRLP here.
2. The True Colors Fund
The True Colors Fund was co-founded by Cyndi Lauper and is dedicated to preventing LGBTQ youth homelessness. The charity works in public policy and engagement to improve the lives of homeless LGBTQ youth, helping them embrace their true identities.

3. The Trevor Project
The Trevor Project provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTi young people ages 13 to 24 years old. Their “Lifeguard Workshop” is a free online learning module with teacher resources for middle school and high school classrooms to teach them about LGBTQ issues. Just $1 helps keep the suicide hotline running for another minute, which could be enough to save young person’s life.

4. Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC)
GMHC is the world’s first and leading provider of HIV prevention, care and advocacy. Building on decades of dedication and expertise, GMHC fights to this day to end the HIV epidemic and uplift the lives of all affected.

5. National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE)
NCTE was founded in 2003 by transgender activists who recognized the urgent need for policy change to advance transgender equality. Today, NCTE is a team of hard-working staff members supported by a nationwide community of transgender people, allies and advocates with an extensive record of winning life-saving change for transgender people.

6. The Tyler Clementi Foundation
The Tyler Clementi Foundation is dedicated to end online and offline bullying in schools, workplaces and faith communities. They work to end bullying, harassment and humiliation by fostering supportive networks in colleges and universities and raising awareness of bullying.
The foundation was created after the suicide of Tyler Clementi who jumped off a bridge near his college campus after being bullied by others for being gay. The Foundation exists in his name to make sure other LGBTQ youth seek help, find support and know that there is joy and promise in the future.

7. Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE)
