“Glee” Totally Hinted At Mark Salling’s Kiddie Porn Habit

Yesterday, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested 33-year-old Mark Salling — the actor who played Noah “Puck” Puckerman in the TV musical series Glee — for possessing “hundreds of images” of child pornography. Though he was later released on $20,000 bail, it got us wondering: had Glee ever hinted at Puckerman’s child porn habit, and we just didn’t notice? Turns out, it kinda did.

Puck, you may remember, was the meathead playboy jock who began the series as a homophobic poon-hound. He slept with many of his  pool-cleaning clients, later knocked-up his best friend’s girlfriend and generally spent the series chasing or rebuffing the affections of other women.

Aspiring child pornographers!

Puck’s character wasn’t complex enough (nor was the show dark enough) to hint at any real-life obsession that Salling might have had with kiddie porn. However, in the fifteenth episode of the second season (entitled “Sexy”), Puck decides to make a sex tape with Lauren — a large-bodied girl who he once humiliated with a serenade of Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls”.

Puck agrees to schtupp her on video to help her become famous a la Kim Kardashian. But then Gwyneth Paltrow steps in (guest-starring as a substitute sex-ed teacher) and scuttles their squalid schemes by mentioning that a sex tape of underage high-schoolers would be considered, get this… child pornography.

It’s weird in retrospect to think of Salling’s character actually contemplating the creation of literal child pornography — a 29-year-old playing a 17-year-old trying to fuck a 16-year-old — kinda strange. Glee‘s other cast members were certainly bumpin’ ugz on-screen and off too — so much that the show’s creator Ryan Murphy had to institute a “no sex in the trailers” rule.

It’s also worth noting that during the “Sexy” episode, Paltrow sings “Do You Wanna Touch Me”, a 1973 glam-rock hit originally performed by Gary Glitter, a British star who was arrested and convicted in the U.K. during the ’90s for possessing “thousands of items of child pornography”… sound familiar? Eek!

And it’s double-plus-interesting when you consider how Glee regularly masked the backgrounds of its stars: like Cory Monteith’s lethal heroin addiction, Nya Rivera reportedly being a huge bitch and now Salling’s kiddie porn weirdness.
