Gay blogs are reporting Tom Daniels, head pastor of the First Baptist Church of Rio Linda, was arrested December 9 for child molestation. The 48 year old has been charged with felony charges of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 and engaging in three or more acts of sexual conduct with a child.
While the filthy irony of a good Christian pastor being responsible for such criminal behavior isn’t normally enough to make it on our radar, Pastor Daniels was apparently a big supporter of California’s Proposition 8. You know, the legislation that stripped gays of their right to marry in order to protect children from being taught about gay marriage in schools. During the fundraising campaign, Daniels donated to ProtectMarriage.com.
Daniels had previously been charged with a similar crime, but there wasn’t enough evidence to convict him. How he remained a caregiver for foster children after those allegations is beyond us. Pastor Daniels remains in jail with bail set at $6 million.
Why was a man with child molestation accusations against him the head pastor of a church?
