Facebook Has Killed Its ‘Pray the Gay Away’ Ads

Facebook has stopped running a homophobic religious ad advising queer users to pray the gay away.

A while ago, we noticed that Facebook was running a series of sponsored videos urging viewers to give up homosexuality and become Christian. These videos were targeted to LGBTQ users.

The videos infuriated the LGBTQ people who received them and got some negative media attention as well.

In response, Facebook stopped running the video as a sponsored ad. It’s still on the site, though.

A spokesman for Facebook told Pink News, “This ad violates our advertising policies, and has been removed.” But why was it allowed to run in the first place?
