INTERVIEW: Outsports’ Cyd Zeigler on the Future of Gay, Bi and Trans Sports

At the South By Southwest Interactive festival, we sat down with Cyd Zeigler, gay author and co-founder of the queer sports site Outsports. Zeigler presented a SXSW talk entitled “Sports Media’s Role in Shaping Social Justice”.

Afterwards, we asked his opinions on why there are nearly no openly LGBT players in professional sports, whether Adidas’ pledge not to fire newly out athletes was just a promotional stunt (Zeigler believes it was), the role of anti-transgender “bathroom bills” in trans athletics and those most responsible for perpetuating queerphobia in sports.
