One thing religious fundamentalists of any stripe hate is gay people, and ISIS is no exception. VICE News is reporting that 10 people were executed in Syria by the Islamic State, and one of those was a 15-year-old boy. Murdering gays is a common site in ISIS videos; they’ve repeatedly released images of gay people being pushed from tall buildings. In August, the UN reported that ISIS had killed at least 30 people for being gay. A common ISIS technique is to lure men on “dates”, where they’re beaten to death.

Sadly, it’s not just ISIS; the UN was recently urged to help Syrian and Iraqi LGBTQ citizens, as they’ve faced discrimination and executions from both the rebel forces and the existing governments. An Iraqi man told the UN that the Iraqi army supervised “lots of murders”.

The UN’s refugee agency, UNHCR, has 2.2 million Syrian refugees registered. Of those, the US will accept only 5,000-8,000 refugees next year, and has currently taken in approximately 1300 Syrian refugees.
