The wave of sexual harassment and sexual assault claims launched by Harvey Weinstein‘s downfall continues. The latest actor to be accused is Jeffrey Tambor, the 73-year-old actor who currently plays the transgender lead in the Amazon dramatic series Transparent. Tambor’s former assistant, Van Barnes, made a private Facebook post alleging Tambor acted inappropriately towards her.
Tambor denies any inappropriate behavior towards Barnes. He said:
I am aware that a former disgruntled assistant of mine has made a private post implying that I had acted in an improper manner toward her. I adamantly and vehemently reject and deny any and all implication and allegation that I have ever engaged in any improper behavior toward this person or any other person I have ever worked with. I am appalled and distressed by this baseless allegation.
It hasn’t been revealed what Tambor is accused of doing in particular; Barnes’ Facebook post merely says he “acted inappropriately.” Amazon is currently investigating the claims by speaking with everyone involved with Transparent‘s production and Tambor himself.
Last month, Amazon executive Roy Price was put on leave, and soon resigned, over allegations he sexually propositioned Isa Dick Hackett, one of the executive producers of Amazon’s post-World War II sci-fi fantasy series The Man in the High Castle.
In addition to being Tambor’s former assistant, Barnes is also a producer and actress. She is also a transgender woman. Barnes appeared in a 2014 episode of Transparent, “The Wilderness.” She’s also been seen in I Am Cait, the reality series about Caitlyn Jenner’s transition, and the Amazon miniseries This Is Me. In 2008, she co-directed the short film You Will Never Ever Be a Woman. You Must Live the Rest of Your Days Entirely as a Man, and You Will Only Grow More Masculine with Each Passing Year. There Is No Way Out. with Zackary Drucker.
