Kylie Minogue stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden to promote her new album Golden. While there the topic of drag impersonators came up, inspiring the pop icon to tell a story about that one time she lost a Kylie Minogue drag queen competition.

Cordon begins, “You are a huge favorite amongst drag queens. Have you ever been to a Kylie drag performance?

“I have! I was the least Kylie of all the Kylies,” she admitted. “I had been to seen the The Lemonheads. That has nothing to do with me. I was in this little crochet [top], I was just the hippie version of myself.”

“I didn’t know I was going to end up in this gay club on drag night, so I wasn’t in ’full flight,’” Minogue explained. “And I’m tiny. So me in a little hippie outfit standing next to four robust Kylies. It was quite something.”

She eludes to the fact that she lost! “I need to make a bit more of an effort next time,” she added.

Minogue may have another opportunity to go toe-to-toe with queens in a Kylie Minogue drag queen competition.  The “Goddess of Pop” is headlining NYC Pride this summer. She takes center stage on the closing night of Pride Island. Additionally, Grind, Ralphi Rosario and Corey Craig will DJ live on the last day of Pride Island as well.

“With the success of last year’s Pride Island, we are thrilled to bring back our music festival in a two-day format,” said Jose Ramos, Pride Island Director. “Kylie Minogue, Tove Lo, Lizzo, and Big Freedia are perfect examples of the evolution of Dance on the Pier.”
