We Went to Starbucks and Taste-Tested the 4 New Lady Gaga Drinks
Collaborations in pop music are rather commonplace, but this week we saw a different type of teamup: a Lady Gaga Starbucks collaboration that resulted in four new drinks being sold by the popular coffee retailer. Called “Kindness Cups,” the four refreshing, low-calorie drinks — just in time for summer — were unveiled on June 13 and will be sold in Starbucks nationwide through June 19.
A quarter of each Kindness Cup goes to Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and the Channel Kindness project. “We’re healthier and happier when we live our lives with compassion,” the pop star said in a statement. “Our communities are stronger when we treat one another with generosity and respect.”
We had to sample the drinks for ourselves, so we enlisted L.A. drag phenom Meatball — whom you may recall made our list of “100 Intriguing LGBTs to Look Out for in 2017” earlier this year — to hit up a local Starbucks and taste-test the four drinks on-camera.
These are the four Lady Gaga Starbucks drinks:
1. Violet Drink
“The sweet blackberries and tart hibiscus of Very Berry Hibiscus Starbucks Refreshers Beverage swirl together with creamy coconut milk and ice, creating a violet-hued drink.”
2. Matcha Lemonade
“The vibrant green drink is made with finely groud Teavana matcha green tea, combined with crisp lemonade, then shaken with ice to create a refreshingly sweet, delicious drink.”
3. Ombre Pink Drink
“A beverage that combines light, fruity Cool Lime Starbucks Refreshers Beverage with cool, creamy coconut milk and a splash of Teavana Shaken Iced Passion Tango Tea and lime wheel, for a bright burst of hibiscus notes.”
4. Pink Drink
“A light beverage that features the sweet strawberry flavors of Strawberry Acai Refreshers with accents of passion fruit and acas combined with coconut milk, and topped with a scoop of strawberries.”
How many “Joanne hats” did Meatball bestow upon the four drinks? And which drink resulted in a spit take on the Starbucks patio? Watch the video to find out!
Regardless of how well the drinks sell during their seven-day run, coffee giant Starbucks has committed to contributing a minimum donation of $250,000 to Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.
