Madonna delivered an epic surprise performance at last night’s Met Gala in New York City. The theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” was the perfect backdrop for a Madonna Met Gala performance, and she delivered everything we would want as the “Queen of Pop.”

Madonna walked the runway in a black Jean Paul Gaultier gown, which she paired with a black net veil over her face that was held in place by jeweled crosses and rosaries. Her blonde hair was parted down the center and two braids flanked her face.

“When I first started I was covered in rosaries so nothing has changed really,” she told Vogue on the carpet before the event. “Religious themes have always been part of my work and have always inspired me. Everything that I do: my music, my creativity, the way I dress.”

Madonna continued, “Tonight, I feel so close to God.”

Madonna later made another grand entrance as she appeared in a monastic cloak at the top of the stairs of the Great Hall, flanked by a group of singers dressed as monks. She descended the stairs of and made her entrance to the tolls of church bells. Talk about the drama, right? The surprise performance fittingly began with a rendition of “Like A Prayer” before she segued into a brand new song which fans have never heard before, which is reportedly titled either “Magic” or “Beautiful Game.”

“It’s a beautiful plan, but I’m not concerned / It’s a beautiful game, that I never learned / You have taught me to shut my mouth, that I not get burned / Keep your beautiful lies, ‘cause I’m not concerned,” Madonna sings over an industrial beat.

She then segued into a bone-chilling version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

We’re loving the Madonna Met Gala performance from last night. Even though she wasn’t a host, Madonna made the night all about her – from her look on the runway to her surprise performance that has left everybody talking today. We hope this is just the beginning of more Madonna coming our way this year.
