Mariah Carey Has Apparently Ditched the High-Priced Things in Life to Endorse an Online Hostel Service
Mariah Carey is now promoting hostels, and it’s actually kind of amazing. The singer is trying to change the perception of this longstanding budget option for travelers, having teamed up with a hostel booking platform for a new campaign. This Mariah Carey Hostelworld ad is called “Even Divas Are Believers.”
In the video, Carey accidentally arrives at the $40-per-night Casa Gracia hostel while visiting Barcelona. One of her assistants booked the stay by mistake, but the star soon discovers the hostel experience isn’t as bad as she may have expected.
Miraculously, Mariah Carey ends up liking it so much that she dresses up in a glamorous and glitzy sequined dress, hits the lounge and performs “Fantasy” (with a white dove, of course) to the backpackers and travelers imbibing at the bar.
Even the press release for the collaboration is hilarious. One line reads, “Known for outlandish diva demands, from ordering dog chauffeurs to demanding 20 white kittens and 100 doves for a performance, and even having bodyguards watch her eat, Mariah surprised everyone when she exclaimed the hostel was ‘Fabulous!’”
Of the partnership, Carey says, “For some reason, someone thought it would be funny to book me in a hostel. To my and everyone’s surprise, the hostel was fabulous! It was super-clean, modern and spacious. I say give hostels a go — it could be a great choice for all you world travelers out there!”
The Global Head of Brand at Hostelworld, Marek Mossakowski, said many people still don’t realize just how much hostels have changed over the past decade. Mossakowski shared in a statement, “Now they’ve got all the facilities you’d expect from expensive accommodation, but with an affordable price and with a ready-made community of like-minded travelers to share experiences with.”
