During a recent stint on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Friends alum Matthew Perry had quite the revelation for the late-night audience! It turns out that Perry and Canada’s current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went to elementary school together, but the two weren’t exactly best friends in the schoolyard.

Asked if he knew Trudeau personally while in elementary school, Perry replied, “I do have a story about him that I’m not proud of.”

Perry told Kimmel that he and his friend Chris Murray — in fifth grade — “beat up Justin Trudeau.”

Kimmel was (naturally) shocked. “The two of you beat him up?” he asked.

Perry said, “We both beat him up. I think he was excelling in sports that we weren’t, so it was pure jealousy, you know, we beat him up.”

Making the story even more nuts, Canada’s Prime Minister at that time was Pierre Trudeau, Justin’s father!

Perry of course told Kimmel that he wasn’t exactly proud of assaulting the young would-be PM, and jokingly remarked, “I think it was rather instrumental in him going to such great heights and becoming prime minister. I think he said, ‘I’m going to rise above this.’”

We’re torn: Does this make Perry a total dick? Or do we forgive the sins of a snotty fifth grader? Either way, we can’t say we feel bad that Perry is probably the least successful of the six Friends actors. Serves him right!
