Long story short:
- Peter and Laurent were ready to become parents, and worked with a surrogacy agency to find a Ukrainian woman to be their surrogate in Belgium.
- Their son, Samuel was born.
- Belgium refuses to give the couple their child. Samuel has spent the past three years in a Belgian orphanage.
We can hardly do the story justice on our own. Please take a moment to watch this video about these parents’ absolutely heart-wrenching story. Press the CC button at the bottom of the video for English captions.

Why would Belgium rather see a child grow up alone in an orphanage than with his gay parents? This is absolutely a case of institutionalized homophobia disguised as a surrogacy law dispute. Gay Family Values rightfully points out that if there aren’t any Belgian laws concerning surrogacy, then there shouldn’t be anything preventing the country from giving the fathers their child. These poor parents!
How could something like this be permitted to happen?!
