Meryl Streep Slams Trump in Globes Acceptance Speech, Trump Responds (Video)

During her acceptance speech for her Golden Globe Awards, Meryl Streep lashed out at Trump for an incident in which he (allegedly) mocked a reporter for having a disability.

Streep said that Trump’s performance “sank its hooks into my heart. Not because it was good. There was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth.” She then went on to say:

It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life. And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing.

Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.

Streep went on to call upon the press to “call him on the carpet” for his misdeeds and encouraged her fellow Hollywood elites to support journalists.

Streep’s speech also noted that Hollywood was full of outsiders and foreigners, and warned, “If you kick them out, we’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts.”

Donald Trump responded in his typical manchild fashion by firing off a couple of angry posts on Twitter.

Unfortunately for Trump, the incident in question ended up on video, and yeah it looks pretty much like he’s mocking a guy for having a disability. See for yourself.

Quite a performance.
