This week saw the introduction of Google Pixel Buds, the tech giant’s first wireless headphones. And that’s not all, as new emoji from Apple are also on the way. Not a tech geek? Air Jordans are coming back with Nike’s newest design.
From fun to functional, here are this week’s must-haves.
1. Vice Collection from Jonathan Adler
From gluten-free to ganja-flavored treats, we all need all life’s little helpers to make our day pleasant. We all have a secret stash of sweets and sedatives; but it’s important to keep them organized, yet discreet. The solution? Jonathan Adler’s Vice Collection, a hand-painted set of candid canisters.
Each canister is designed and sculptured by Adler and his team in Soho. Besides being functional, these canisters are also great conversation pieces. From $25 to $128, collect the whole set and spice up your decor with these cheeky canisters. jonathanadler.com
2. New Apple Emoji
What do gender-neutral characters, mermaids and Chinese takeout boxes have in common? They’re the new emoji coming to your iPhone in the upcoming iOS 11.1 update. Though the Unicode Consortium, the organization in charge of determining new emoji, released its latest version in June, it takes a while for companies to actually decide how they’re going to illustrate them.
Apple’s finally finished with its versions — including a crazy face, a pie, a pretzel and a T-rex — with 200 new characters in all. The emoji will also have new gender and skin tone modifiers. If you communicate with your squad mostly in emoji, you need to have this. Best of all, it’s free as part of the standard iPhone software updates!
3. Air Jordan I Retro High Flyknit by Nike
Sneakerheads, great news: Nike is launching a brand-new Air Jordan I with its lightweight fabric Flyknit. In 1985, Nike released the Air Jordan I to tremendous fanfare. Air Jordans have always been made from the best materials of the era, and this shoe is no exception.
Flyknit technology means the shoe is flexible and lightweight. And, of course, it wouldn’t be an Air Jordan without Nike Air cushioning. The new shoe has a high-cut collar with OG royal blue and black blocking. There’s also a red and black version if blue isn’t your color. $180 at at nike.com
4. Google Pixel Buds
Not to be outdone by Apple’s recent product launch event, Google just unveiled several new products. The new Google Pixel 2 phone will be available around November. It comes with different size and color options, and adds some new features. Google also introduced the new Google Home Mini, Pixel Chromebook and more. But we’re most excited for the Google Pixel Buds, its first set of wireless Bluetooth headphones.
These Google Pixel Buds provide notifications, read messages out loud, and give quick one-touch access to the Google Assistant. But the most amazing thing about these headphones is that it can easily translate up to 40 different languages in real-time. It’s like having a real-life Babel Fish! Attach the Pixel Buds to your Google Pixel phone and you can talk to strangers in foreign countries with ease. The Pixel Buds come in white, blue and black and will ship in November for $159. 5. Mille-Feuille at Narcissa
October is #NationalDessertMonth, so we’ve gotta include a mouthwatering treat. Narcissa, the famed East Village restaurant in New York City, has the best mille-feuille in town. This scrumptious French pastry is baked with layers of milk chocolate cremeux and malted whipped cream stacked between delicate puff pastry.
Sprinkled with crushed honeycomb and sea salt, the server pours caramel on top of this towering dessert to add even more sweetness to this tasty morsel. Be sure to go with a friend, as each mille-feuille is made for two. $16 at Narcissa
6. Carbon Sports Legging by RUFSKIN
Our favorite lifestyle brand, RUFSKIN, offers a stellar selection of sexy activewear. This Southern California-based label — which also creates underwear, swimwear and accessories — knows how to enhance the individuality of the male form. And we’re happy to report that RUFSKIN’s new Carbon Sports Leggings continues the tradition.
This sporty stretch-legging is designed with a custom carbon fiber sublimation print. The leggings also boast contrast side stripes and the RUFSKIN logo on the left leg. But it’s not just beautiful — the 4-way stretch, seamless sides, faux fly and built-in ID pocket all make this a functional piece as well. $78 at rufskin.com
