This week’s roundup of must-have items is quite a mix: new Star Wars collectibles for the geek within us all, a wardrobe collection from one of our favorite San Francisco/New York eateries (complete with a menu on the back!) and, best of all, the new Tom Ford fragrance.
Just be prepared to shell out some major cash for Ford’s new scent, which bears the cheekiest name in his fragrance line so far.
1. Star Wars Robot Collectibles
Star Wars fans, are you ready for another Force Friday? The Last Jedi hits theaters this December, but you can get your hands on BB-8 and BB-9E collectibles now. In addition to these two ball-shaped robots, R2-D2 also makes its debut and is available for purchase.
For $149, you can get yourself the BB-8 or BB-9E collectibles. The miniature R2-D2 runs $179. (All are available at disney.com.) The new BB-9E is also an app-controlled robot, like the previous BB-8 2015 model. Both robots have the same ball-shaped body, moving without wheels, but the BB-9E features blue and red lights that illuminate when the head attaches to the body. This latest R2-D2 design can pull a third-leg up into its body, plus it can waddle, fall and play dead, just like the character in the movie.
2. Mission Chinese Food Apparels
If you’re a native San Franciscan, you already know about Mission Chinese Food. Known for its savory Sichuan cuisine, the restaurant now has a second location in New York City. But in addition to serving up mouthwatering dishes like Koji fried chicken, spicy peanut noodles and Malaysian beef jerky fried rice, now you can take a piece of Mission Chinese Food home with you thanks to its newly launched clothing line.
Working with local artists from Oakland to Los Angeles, the collection consists of cozy thermals, sweatshirts and tees. Check out the above pink pullover; it has “good luck” stamps printed on the front, and on the back it lists all your favorite Mission Chinese Food dishes. You know, so you can savor them anywhere you go. The Mission Good Luck Pink Crew runs for $55 at nicethings.nyc.
3. Green Screen Photo Booth
It’s Labor Day weekend. You’re the hostess with the mostest, famous for throwing fabulous parties. But besides having over-the-top decorations, delicious trays of appetizers and a variety of fancy cocktails, why not entertain your guests with your own photo booth? For $8K, you can capture every moment and create long-lasting memories with the HootBooth EventPro Photo Booth.
This photo booth includes a professional ring light that takes high-quality pictures. It also has a 24.2-megapixel Canon EOS T6i DSLR camera for clear images. Plus it has touchscreen display and allows social media uploads and automatic photo printing for non-stop fun.
4. Y Is For Yesterday by Sue Grafton
If you love a good mystery, then check out Y Is For Yesterday, the latest New York Times best seller. The book is Sue Grafton’s 25th novel from her alphabetical mystery series, going on since A is for Alibi. The story continues evolving around protagonist Kinsey Millhone and her latest adventure.
In Millhone’s latest case, she needs to find out who has been blackmailing her new client, a former student released from prison. But the drama doesn’t stop there. (Oh, no.) Millhone also needs to defend herself against a vicious sociopath who has a grudge against her. Available on your Kindle for $14.99, this page-turner is a perfect companion for traveling or lounging around the pool this Labor Day weekend.
5. Fucking Fabulous by Tom Ford
You’ll look fabulous in anything designed by Tom Ford, but now you can smell amazing, too, thanks to his latest creation, Tom Ford’s “Fucking Fabulous” fragrance.
This new addition to his fragrance lineup is a concoction consisting of exotic scents like almond bitter oil, tonka resinoid, orris accord, cashmeran, leather accord and clary sage oil. Smelling fucking fabulous comes with a high price, though. The scent will retail for $395 for a 50 ml bottle and $495 for the atomizer, available Sept. 7.
6. LGBTQ Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund
Hurricane Harvey has dominated this week’s news cycle, and we’ve all witnessed the devastation caused by this tropical storm. Harvey is the wettest tropical cyclone on record in recent history, causing floods that have inundated hundreds of thousands of homes, displacing more than 30,000 people and prompting more than 13,000 rescues.
While there are many groups in need and deserving of help, the LGBTQ community often faces unique challenges. If you want to help our community and assist them in recovery from Harvey, the Montrose Center, a Houston-based LGBTQ community center, has started an “LGBTQ Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund” as a way to raise money and help people affected by this hurricane.
