Now Hear This: Adele’s Not Streaming, Ween Reunite And More!

Be first to like this.

Adele’s 25 FINALLY comes out today, but if you want to hear it, you’ll have to buy it. The album will not be on streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music. Adele’s not the only big-name artist to nix streaming; last year, Taylor Swift pulled her albums from Spotify over royalties. Adele’s declined to comment on why she’s not allowing streaming services 25 — whether or not it’s over royalties, not wanting to cannibalize her sales or something else entirely — but a spokesman for Target told the New York Times he expects 25 to be one of their best-selling albums of all time.

Dance-punk band !!! (pronounced “Chk Chk Chk”) has just released their new video for “Ooo” — and it’s a collaboration with the mind behind [Adult Swim]’s viral classic Too Many Cooks, Casper Kelly. The video is an amusingly-cheap looking sci-fi epic about hooking up and infidelity — think Star Trek, the original series, run through with The OC, and you might have something.

If that weren’t enough, on their new tour, !!! are opening for themselves as a Stereolab tribute act, Stereolad. If you’re one of the millions who miss Stereolab and wish they’d do another record and can’t make it to a !!! show to pretend, good news! Tim Gane, one of Stereolab’s founding members, has just announced his new band, Cavern of Anti-Matter, will release their first album early next year.

It’s time to paint the town brown — Ween have reunited! The beloved band will play three nights over President’s Day weekend, February 12, 13 and 14, at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Tickets go on sale today, so act fast! It’s sure to sell out!

In strange Christmas Music news, Bill Murray is collaborating with French disco act Phoenix on a new single! The song is “Alone on Christmas Day”, and it’ll be released as a tie-in with Murray’s Netflix Christmas special, directed by Sofia Coppola. Jason Schwartzman and Paul Schaffer also appear on the track.

If that’s enough Christmas weirdness to get you excited, glam-rock pastiche act The Darkness are also putting out a new holiday single too. “I Am Santa” — from the deluxe edition of their newest record Last Of Our Kind, out today — sounds pretty much like what you’d expect from the Darkness, so put away that long-worn 45 of “Merry Xmas Everybody” and get out your makeup and glitter!

New Music This Week: Tomorrow, the Velvet Underground are putting out a special box set called The Complete Matrix Tapes, a four-disc collection of rarities, alternate takes and live versions.

Speaking of box sets, avant-rock act Tuxedomoon is putting out a 10 LP box set named, simply The Vinyl Box

Rush is putting out several versions of their R40 Live album, including multi-disc box sets, DVD and blu-ray editions.

New Age chanteuse Enya has her eleventh album, Dark Sky Island, out in standard and deluxe editions today.

Michael Buble is putting out Christmas, which is shockingly his first Christmas album – he did have a Christmas EP back in 2003 though. Fun fact: Michael Buble hates being called “Mister Bubble”! (Well, probably. We would.)

Ed Sheeran’s got a new live film out, Jumpers For Goalposts: Live At Wembley Stadium.

Finally, Matt Berry (of Snuff BoxGarth Marenghi’s Darkplace and The IT Crowd fame) is putting out his first live album, Matt Berry & The Maypoles Live.
