New York City police officers arrested 30-year-old Stephanie Pazmino for allegedly stabbing Ijan DaVonte Jarrett, a 44-year-old a transgender man and hairstylist, while aboard a southbound subway train. Jarrett reportedly offered Pazmino and her female friend a seat and Pazmino said to her friend in Spanish that she didn’t want to sit next to Jarrett because he was black. Jarrett then offered his seat and then sat across from the two women. When he later got up to leave the train, Pazmino came up to him and slashed him across the face and arm with a two-inch knife.

Another rider got between the two to stop the attack, Pazmino fled and Jarrett alerted a station agent who contacted the police. The station agent then told Jarrett to sit down and he eventually passed out and was taken to Harlem Hospital where he required 100 stitches. Pazmino got arrested and charged with assault as a hate crime, reckless endangerment and weapons possession.
