Oprah on Why She Won’t Respond to Trump: ‘You Can’t Meet Negative Energy Where It Is’
While promoting her upcoming film A Wrinkle In Time, Oprah was asked why she hasn’t responded to the recent attacks made by Donald Trump and Mo’Nique on her character. On why she hasn’t clapped back, Oprah said: “It’s impossible.”
In a February 18th tweet, Trump called Oprah “very insecure,” stating he hope she runs for office in 2020 so “she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others.” Last year, a video went viral where Mo’Nique went off on Oprah, Lee Daniels and Tyler Perry. Mo’Nique later explained her beef with Oprah began after the talk-show host had the actress’ family on her show.
But regardless of all that noise, Oprah doesn’t respond to her haters. Global Grind brought this up when they sat down with her, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon to discuss their upcoming film A Wrinkle In Time. They asked: “You’re taking the high road on so many different levels when people say negative things about you: Trump, Mo’Nique is in the media right now. Why do you continue to take the high road? Why don’t you address it to its face?”
It’s impossible, it’s a law that if you meet negative with negative you will just have a combustive negative force of energy. You can’t meet negative energy where it is, you have to rise above it, you have to transcend it. You have to be the light. It only takes a little bit of light to banish the darkness, it takes a lot of darkness to overcome the light. It takes just a little bit of light and we are warriors of the light. So I would never stoop to try to meet somebody where they are negatively. Don’t care who they are.

When Global Grind tweeted the clip, they tagged both Trump and Mo’Nique in the comments, which in itself is a bit shady.
Mo’Nique, of course, responded. She tweeted: “@Oprah there is a difference between negativity for the sake of being negative and there is a difference between the truth which may be negative. If you notice what your not saying is I’ve lied about anything and that is very telling don’t you think.
She later added: “Fake gold shines too, but it doesn’t change the fact that it will turn your neck green. @Oprah you keep shining.”
