Tone-Deaf Ivanka Trump Tweeted Her Support for Oprah’s Speech and the Internet Clapped Back

Ivanka Trump, the daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, tweeted her support for Oprah’s Golden Globes speech that referred both to the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements fighting pervasive sexual harassment in the workplace. Ivanka tweeted: “Just saw @Oprah’s empowering & inspiring speech at last night’s #GoldenGlobes. Let’s all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP! #United”

Twitter immediately responded, pointing out that her father is one of the sexual abusers this movement is fighting against, as 19 women have come forward with allegations against him.

Twitter responds to Ivanka’s praise of Oprah’s golden globes speech

The response to Ivanka Trump’s tweet ranged from mockery to disgust. The tweet was quickly hit with “the ratio,” that is the number of replies greatly outnumbered the likes, and the replies were overwhelmingly negative.

Chrissy Teigan, who really is the master of Twitter and an outspoken critic of the president, simply responded: “Ew go away.” (Teigan is so outspoken, Donald Trump has blocked her.)

Alyssa Milano sarcastically called on Ivanka to put her money where her mouth is, adding a link to the GoFundMe page for the Time Up’s Legal Defense Fund. “Great! You can make a lofty donation to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund that is available to support your father’s accusers.”

Jennifer Rubin wrote, “This is the most hypocritical, clueless statement in her regrettable time in the WH. Your father has a trail of victims and supported Roy Moore, Ivanka. YOU are indeed part of the problem Ivanka. #complicit”

Elizabeth Spiers pointed out, “Ivanka saying ‘Time’s Up’ doesn’t just tell you something about her intelligence (or lack thereof); it tells you what she thinks about everyone else’s.”

Another responded, “As tone-deaf as this is since half this speech was against everything your father’s administration is about I can’t deny this took a little courage to share. Now do the right thing and stand up against the shame your father is creating and make change.”

Oprah’s soaring speech was one of the many highlights from the very ‘woke’ evening. Her speech was so moving, new theories and hopes for her presidential run in 2020 have surfaced. Two close friends have reportedly said she’s “actively considering” a presidential run and even NBC wrote in a now-deleted tweet that she’d be our future president.
