Recently, video showing a drunk man shouting racist slurs on a New York City subway went viral. Other riders confronted the self-professed “lawyer from NYU Law” and tried to get him to stop, before forcibly removing him from the subway car. Next, queer rapper Princess Nokia threw a container of soup at him.
NYC rapper Princess Nokia (whose real name is Destiny Frasqueri) tweeted that she threw the soup. Her representatives confirmed that it was her. Nokia wrote, “This bigot called a group of teenage boys ‘niggers’ on the train so I stood up and slapped him and everybody on the train backed me up.”
She continued, “It take a lot of risks trying to stand up to racist & bigots. Putting yourself in potential danger is scary ASF, esp as a young women… But I be damned if I let some drunk bigot call a group of young teenage boys racist names and allow him to get away with it ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿.”
I still feel like an outsider. I’ve always been an outsider and I will always be an outsider. I know what it’s like to live alone and be on some different shit, so the fact that I can translate that into a universal language and bring it into a world it’s not supposed to fit into — that’s powerful. That’s really saying, “I don’t give a fuck.” And a lot of other people don’t either, but they can laugh at themselves. They don’t take things so seriously. They have a good time and a better, more positive perspective. That’s so important.
The man in the video has also been identified as 29-year-old Paul Lawson. In an interview with The Gothamist, he said that he was “making a point” and that he’s “”not that sorry. I feel bad I used that word but I was making a point, lots of comedians do that; it’s the first fucking amendment and look at the liberal mob beating up the peaceful protester now, fucking losers.”
This isn’t the first time Lawson has been caught shouting racist slurs on the New York City subway. In May, he got in a fight with someone, not only called them racist slurs but also gay ones, too.

Joe Fuller, who tweeted that video, said that Lawson had been berating the man for at least 20 minutes, calling him a “n*gger” and a “faggot.”
“The black guy is like, ‘You’re yelling racist and hateful things at people, we don’t do that in New York, that’s just not what’s going to happen,'” Fuller told Gothamist. “[Lawson] kept saying that black people shouldn’t live in Bed-Stuy … so the guy pushes him off the train and he tries to come back —the same way in the other video — and the guy punches him in the face twice and the doors shut on him. Everyone clapped.”
Maybe Lawson should start taking cabs.
