Last night, in the closed Facebook group DIY Chicago, claims were made that members of the queer punk band PWR BTTM had assaulted people in the LGBTQ community. The posts allege that PWR BTTM’s lead singer Ben Hopkins initiated “inappropriate sexual contact with people” and posit that Hopkins has made advances on minors. The posts also accuse Hopkins of anti-semitism for an image in which Hopkins poses with a swastika drawn in the sand.

The original poster, Kitty Kolin-Cordero, created a Twitter account yesterday and has posted two follow-ups thus far:

In the first tweet, an anonymous source claims they knew the band in high school, accusing the group of making “unwanted sexual advances to almost anyone with breasts.”

The second tweet expands the accusations to Hopkins’ bandmate Liv Bruce, though it neglects to expand on the claim.

The allegations were also posted on r/indieheads, and additional accusations have been made against the band. Redditor katjakatja posted:

hey obviously I’m an anonymous commenter here but this is absolutely true. i personally know MULTIPLE people that Ben has abused or assaulted. he is truly a horrible person and I have watched PWR BTTM’S rise to fame with horror and disgust. any space with Ben Hopkins is not a safe space for queer people or femme people and I’m grateful that more people are finally becoming aware of this.

Twitter’s been blowing up Stephanie Knipe from the band Adult Mom posted a statement on Twitter about “outing culture.” And another new Twitter account has surfaced, @PWRBTTMReceipts, which posts screenshots of tweets from Hopkins’ pre-band Twitter account, @Beardkins.
