Social media was abuzz tonight as Rachel Maddow’s promise to release Donald Trump’s tax returns quite literally “broke the internet.”

Then the episode aired, and many were let down by the big reveal:

Some even compared it to Geraldo’s #fail reveal of Al Capone’s vault:

Still, there are many who are applauding Maddow’s work for the resistance:
