Rachel Maddow Broke the Internet with Trump’s 2005 Taxes, and Twitter Responded
Social media was abuzz tonight as Rachel Maddow’s promise to release Donald Trump’s tax returns quite literally “broke the internet.”
It all started with a tweet from the show’s official Twitter account:
BREAKING: We’ve got Trump tax returns. Tonight, 9pm ET. MSNBC.
— Rachel Maddow MSNBC (@maddow) March 14, 2017
The entire world went nuts:
I told everyone in line at this Bed Bath and Beyond that Rachel Maddow has the tax returns and it’s chaos!!!

Me: I’m done with reading anything about Trump, it’s mentally and emotionally draining.
Rachel Maddow: I have Trump’s tax returns.

Then the episode aired, and many were let down by the big reveal:
I love Rachel Maddow but she was played. DT’s incomplete 2005 tax return distracts from a disastrous healthcare bill & Russia. #TrumpRussia

Did Rachel Maddow just fall into a trap? Too easy for him to spin as a positive. Why 2005? Was it the only year that he actually paid taxes?

Some even compared it to Geraldo’s #fail reveal of Al Capone’s vault:

Imagine Geraldo’s regret when he opened Al Capone’s vault to find Rachel Maddow’s report on Trump’s taxes. pic.twitter.com/RH3FRZtV66

Still, there are many who are applauding Maddow’s work for the resistance:
Since @Wikileaks is employed by Russia, thankfully we have journalists like David Cay Johnston & Rachel Maddow to expose Putin-puppet Trump.

Regardless of opinion (on politics and / or the Rachel Maddow segment): America deserves the full release of @realDonaldTrump‘ tax returns

You can tell which twitter users have never watched Rachel Maddow before. She always provides context on major stories #TrumpTaxes
— Christopher (@sane_america) March 15, 2017
One thing is certain, Rachel Maddow proved by public interest in this episode ALONE that the AMERICAN Public DEMANDS TO SEE #TRUMPTAXES!

For ppl whining about @maddow :
1) She educated millions abt Trump’s Russian ties.
2) Ratings prove not just reporters care about his taxes

And as for the White House’s claim that Maddow releasing the 2005 tax returns was illegal, NICE TRY:
