How did gay travel vlogger Ravi Roth end up with a sunburned ass on his trek to South Africa last year? You’ll have to watch the video documenting his trip to find out!
Roth has spent the last decade trekking the globe, and now you can travel alongside him by watching his web series Ravi ‘Round the World, in which he makes a point of exploring gay culture everywhere he goes. Unlike many gay travelers, though, who rely on tools like Yelp or Trip Advisor to reveal a destination’s must-see sites, Roth takes a different approach to creating an itinerary.
“I base my itineraries on the people who actually live in each city,” he says. “With only a cell phone and selfie stick in hand, I interview locals and capture the best gay-friendly restaurants, cafés, bars, and sites that locals love.”
Which places made the cut during Roth’s trip to Cape Town for the South African city’s Pride Festival Week last year? Other than the Pride festival itself, Roth hikes to the top of Lion’s Head, combines biking and wine-sipping at a local vineyard and hits up a slew of gay watering holes, including drag haven Beefcakes, bear bar Amsterdam Action and the pulsing dance club Crew.
We particularly loved when Roth used Hornet—the world’s premier gay social network, available as an app and on the web—to find Cape Town’s hottest beach. He ends up at Sandy Bay, the nude beach popular among in-the-know locals, and it looks like he made a friend!
