Daquan King has been charged with the murder of Savyon Zabar.

Zabar, nicknamed Big Ben, was a well-known party promoter and owner of the gay club Escuelita. He was found dead in his Upper West Side apartment on January 4.

Police have confirmed that Daquan King, 23, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. King was a masseur who Zabar employed twice a week and who also had a sexual relationship with, police sources said.

The New York Post writes:

During King’s confession, “he was sobbing the whole time,’’ one source said.

“He said it started out with him massaging the victim. The massage led to them fooling around. They were doing weird sex stuff. And that led to them choking each other.”

The sexual escapade allegedly “ended with the perp choking the victim a little too hard and he heard the victim gurgling. He was so freaked out, he left.’’

Escuelita was an extremely popular gay nightlife destination in Midtown Manhattan. It was the hottest Latin-flavored club outside of the Bronx and Queens for years until its closing last year.

Zabar was buried Friday morning on Staten Island.

The accused killer had five prior arrests for robbery and grand larceny. He was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Friday and will be back in court on January 18.
