Even though Netflix turned down fan requests to un-cancel Sense8, the Wachowski Sisters’ queer sci-fi series that was cancelled after just two seasons and a Christmas special, the show’s creators have revealed that they’ll be releasing “a two-hour finale episode.”

In a letter posted to Twitter, one of the shows creators, presumably the show’s director Lana Wachowski, said that the fan outpouring of love and grief after the show’s cancellation was so intense that they fell into a deep depression, adding, “I had never worked so hard or put so much of myself into a project… and its cancellation hollowed me out.”

However, the creator writes, “Just as the characters in our show discover that they are not alone, I too have learned that I am not just a me. I am also a we. The passionate letters, the petitions, the collective voice … improbably, unforeseeably … has brought Sense8 back to life.”

The episode will premiere on Netflix.

What loose ends will the finale episode tie up?

At the end of Season 1, the Sensates were on a raft after trans lesbian hacker Nomi helped Will the police officer and Riley the Icelandic DJ escape from the clutches of evil Mr. Whispers. But since all the characters mostly lived in separate countries, they weren’t physically together: Nomi was in San Francisco; Sun-Bak the CFO kickboxer was in a South Korean prison; Lito the newly out actor lived in Mexico City; and Wolfgang the gangster just finished killing his uncle in Germany while Kala the chemist watched from India.

One of the truly great premises of Season 2 was that the Sensates learned that they are not the only Sensates, and we learned that more Sensate clusters exist and are very secretive so they don’t get caught by the evil Mr. Whispers. We hope that by the end of this two-hour finale, we get to truly understand how the Sensates are all connected and how their connection works.

We may also finally get an answer for all those questions left by the last season like: Is the enigmatic Jonas good or evil? Now that the Sensates are all together, will they get the answer they were looking for? Will they save Wolfgang, the German gangster? Will Sun take revenge on her corrupt brother after going to prison for his crimes? And most importantly, will Kala meet Wolfgang and live happily ever after?
