These 7 Sexy, Woke Football Players Are the Real Reason to Watch Sunday’s Super Bowl
Going into Sunday’s Super Bowl Game between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles, we began thinking about who are the sexy football players to watch.
But, as we started our research, we couldn’t help but realize that so much of these men’s sexiness included their “wokeness.” Some have been vocal supporters of the LGBT community, while others are standing up against racism.
And no tea, no shade – but Tom Brady isn’t one of them.
Here are 7 sexy football players to watch at this year’s Super Bowl:
1. Devin McCourty – Defensive back, New England Patriots
Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty was among those who refused to meet with President Trump after last year’s Super Bowl win. In September, he made quite the statement without saying a word. He wore a shirt during a Sunday post-game press conference that read: “No place for racism, fascism, sexism, hate.”
After President Donald Trump’s comments suggesting NFL players get fired for kneeling during the national anthem, McCourty made a tweet following Trump’s comments that correlates with the words displayed on his shirt.
He tweeted: “Ppl said it was disrespectful not going to the White House..I’m sure they are quiet about us being called “sons of bitches” ??♂️(D-Mac)”
2. Mychal Kendricks – Linebacker, Philadelphia Eagles
There aren’t many single NFL players that Rihanna dubs her #MCM—but Mychael Kendricks made that exclusive list in 2014. His response? To praise her success and not just her hot body.
“She is pretty and cute. She is self-made as far as getting herself off that island. She is successful,” Kendricks told E! News. “I heard she has a crazy aura and people’s energy are just drawn to her and she has the ability to attract other people’s energy.”
3. Danny Amendola – Wide receiver, New England Patriots
Ok, so maybe Danny Amendola isn’t quite as “woke” as our other picks, but he’s super easy on the eyes. He’s probably one of the sexiest men who will be out on the field Sunday. So much so, in July 2017, he signed a contract to be represented by Ford Models, making him the first NFL player the agency has ever signed.
4. Rob Gronkowski – Tight end, New England Patriots
Rob Gronkowski is a bad boy with a big buff body. He’s also said he would support a teammate coming out as gay. OutSports asked him back in 2012: “How would you feel if one of your teammates on the Patriots came out of the closet this season?”
He responded: “If that’s how they are, that’s how they are. I mean, we’re teammates so, as long as he’s being a good teammate and being respectful and everything, that’s cool.”
5. Malcolm Jenkins – Defensive back, Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles defensive back Malcolm Jenkins is known as much for his social justice advocacy as his gameplay.
Jenkins is the Eagles’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, given annually to the NFL player for charity and community work. As one of the founders of the Players Coalition, a group of socially conscious NFL players committed to fighting racism and inequality, Jenkins helped negotiate a landmark $89 million pledge by the league to assist community organizations.
He has opened communication with the league on sticky social issues. He opened talks with local police to better understand the divide that exists between law enforcement and the communities they serve, and Jenkins has educated himself about the criminal justice system he is so passionate about reforming.
6. Chris Long – Defensive end, Philadelphia Eagles
When an ESPN anchor did a dumb and clueless job discussing Michael Sam’s showering habits with his teammates, Chris Long had the best reply. Then a Rams’ defensive lineman and teammate of Sam, he replied: “Dear ESPN, Everyone but you is over it.”
Long now plays for the Eagles, and his “wokeness” continues to this day. Long’s Waterboys program provides clean water to villages in East Africa while inspiring military veterans to take on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
in 2017, he donated his first six game checks to his hometown of Charlottesville after September’s violent, racially charged protests. He is donating the rest of this year’s checks to equal-education initiatives. That’s $1 million dollars in total.
7. Julian Edelman – Wide receiver, New England Patriots
Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is very sexy, but the sexiest thing about him is his support for the LGBTQ community.
He was vocal in his support for marriage equality for gay people, and he wasn’t afraid to show it. He turned his social media presence rainbow-colored when same-sex marriage became a Federal right. He changed his Facebook and Twitter avatars to a picture of him dyed in rainbow colors. On Twitter, he shot off a message of “#LoveWins.”
The Patriots publicly asked the Supreme Court to find in favor of same-sex marriage several months prior to the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges decision.
