STUDY: A Majority Of Women Search For Lesbian Porn

Why we’re covering this: A recent CDC survey of 9,000 people aged 18 to 44 showed that 2.8 percent of self-professed heterosexual men and 12.6 percent of hetero women have had “same-sex sexual contact”. With more and more studies confirming the bisexual tendencies of so-called “straight people”, it’s important to highlight the different ways human sexuality expresses itself: both online and in secret.

With over 60 million daily visitors, Pornhub knows a thing or two about people’s desires. With insights into the most popular types of Easter-porn and the political leanings of online masturbators, they’re quickly becoming our favorite provider of porn-viewing data. Most recently, they’ve revealed that 24 percent of their viewers are women — that’s over 14 million women viewing porn around the world each day — and most of them are searching for lesbian porn.

According to their 2015 data, most of the women in North and South America, North Africa, Australia and Western Europe are all searching for lesbian porn — that’s pretty cool, especially when you consider that the average worldwide viewing time for female Pornhub users is 10 minutes 33 seconds; we assume that’s how long it takes them to get off (or get bored).

It’s not surprising that women enjoy watching same-sex porn — after all, a woman’s pleasure gets better service when other women are involved. But Pornhub’s data is especially interesting when you consider the attitudes women have towards porn overall.

The women’s site Bustle.com took a closer look at these attitudes by combing through a Marie Claire survey of over 3,000 readers. They found that 88 percent of women watch porn for themselves (not their partners), 40 percent also enjoy erotic stories (rather than just visual porn), 51 percent felt it taught them about sex and 76 percent thought it had no negative impact on their dating and sex lives.

It wasn’t all good news though: 41 percent said they didn’t want other people knowing that they watched porn, 20 percent said porn made them feel ashamed, 56 percent disliked porn’s portrayal of women and 35 percent said that porn confused men about real-life sex and dating. Just goes to show that watch you watch online can affect how you behave and think offline.
