PHOTOS: The Lesbian Kiss for Russia/Ukraine Peace That’s Rockin’ the Web

Chances are, you’ve seen this viral photo going around:

But what’s it about — what does it mean? And what are those flags? This photo, taken by Moscow photographer Arseny Jabiev, is part of his #SummerOfLoveProject, showing couples in passionate kisses. The project was commissioned by the fashion magazine Blvd (Link in Russian), and throughout the year, Jabiev has been posting pictures to his Instagram.

The two flags in the photo belong to Ukraine (on the left) and Russia. The photo, thus, is a loaded comment on both Russia’s anti-gay policies, as well as Putin’s invasion of Crimea.

We hope to see more political statements from Jabiev! His photography is gorgeous — and as the saying says, a picture’s worth a thousand more, so here’re a few more of our favorites from the #SummerOfLoveProject!

It also looks like a few other people have gotten in on the #SummerOfLoveProject, so even though it’s not summer anymore, why not add a few gay smooches to the mix! Be sure to post links to your images in the comments!
