Trump Is Celebrating Pride Month by Speaking at an Anti-LGBTQ Conference
U.S. President Donald Trump (will we ever stop wanting to gag when we write that?) decided not to issue a proclamation for LGBTQ Pride month, but he’s celebrating Pride month a different way — by speaking at an event full of anti-LGBTQ speakers.
The event happens Thursday, June 8 and it’s called the “Road to Majority” conference, a religious conservative gathering where Trump will be headlining alongside other anti-queer speakers. Here’s a few of them:
Pat Boone – A singer, actor, TV host and producer who said that gay rights is a “danger to our way of life” and will destroy moral values, religious freedom and the American spirit.
Michael Medved – A radio host and author who claimed that U.S. states have never banned gay marriage, calling it “a liberal lie.”
Ken Paxton – The Texas Attorney General who instructed the state’s anti-gay clerks to refuse marriage licenses to same-sex couples after the Supreme Court legalized marriage equality nationwide.
Mike Pence – The U.S. Vice President who has pretty much opposed LGBTQ rights every step of his political career.
Dr. James Dobson – The founder of the rabidly anti-gay hate group Focus on the Family. Dobson himself has said that the real gay rights agenda is to destroy Christianity and America … sure, okay, but he left out brunch.
We should also point out that the 21-person speaking roster has absolutely no people of color — none. Gives you an idea of their key audience.
Trump’s speech is scheduled three days before the Washington D.C. LGBTQ Equality March.
During the campaign, Trump told LGBTQ voters, “I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of the hateful, foreign ideology, believe me.” But he apparently didn’t mean the hateful ideology in his own country (and by “his own country”, we mean the U.S., not Russia).
