Twin Cities Pride took place this past weekend, with a parade that drew a record number of people to Downtown Minneapolis and a festival that featured tons of food, hundreds of vendors and four stages of live entertainment. But all weekend long, the parties that were the true draw of Pride were those thrown by the party guys known as Flip Phone. Among the many draws of Flip Phone’s events was the “Miss Congeniality” (or is it “Fan Favorite”?) of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9, Valentina.
The slate of Flip Phone parties from this past weekend was intense. Featuring five days of drag, dancing and all-around revelry, parties included a Pride kickoff party featuring Latrice Royale; Holy Trinity: Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Nicki; The Beer Dabbler, an event featuring local breweries showcasing Lady Gaga-inspired brews; Planet Glitter, a party that brought Aja to the stage; Love on Top, a Beyoncé dance party-slash-rooftop parade viewing party; and the weekend’s main event, Flip Phone XXL, which allowed 1,600 partiers to glance at Valentina’s “Linda Evangelista” good looks.
Along with Season 7 alum Max and a few other local queens, Valentina wowed the sold-out crowd at First Avenue, the famed home of Prince that was featured in the film Purple Rain. Flip Phone produces dance parties with drag pop-ups at First Avenue five times a year.
Those lucky enough to score tickets to the party’s Valentina meet-and-greet also got the chance to come face-to-face with the L.A.-based performer.
Other Drag Race alumni who showed up in support of the party included judge and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy originator Carson Kressley, Season 1 winner Bebe Zahara Benet, Season 5 and All Stars 2 vet Coco Montrese and recent competitor Kimora Blac.
