Warner Brothers is working on a reboot to the 1999 sci-fi action film The Matrix without the original writer/directors the Wachowskis.

The details of the reboot are still sketchy, as the project is still in its early stages, The Hollywood Reporter says. It’s unknown whether the reboot will be a re-telling of the original story or a side story in the Matrix universe.

The Wachowskis, a pair of trans sisters who wrote and directed the original film, do not appear to be involved with the project. And if they’re out, then so is star Keanu Reeves, who told Yahoo, “The Wachowskis would have to be involved. They would have to write it and direct it.”
